Lenton Brae is a small boutique winery based in the Margaret River Western Australia. Bruce and Jeanette Tomlinson established the vineyard and it was handed over the Edward Tomlinson there son who currently runs the winery and makes the wine. Edward makes great wines that are balanced, varietal and expressive of the Margret River region. I first came across Lenton Brea in 2015 when I did a Chardonnay tasting with friends, someone pull out a 2011 Wilyabrup Chardonnay which is the wineries premium Chardonnay and I thought; “Gee wiz this is good and punches much higher than its price point!”
This wine is no exception, honestly I have tasted Margaret River Chardonnay that is twice this price that is half as good. Edward has really crafted I think a delightful Chardonnay that is elegant, balanced and expressive. White peach, apple blossom, and slight creamy vanilla on the nose, the mouthfeel is juicy, and broad but maintains great drive in the centre of the palate. Flavours of tart juicy peach, grapefruit skins, and almond meal, there is a slight hint of both oak and diacetyl (butter) which adds complexity.
This is a seriously delicious Aussie Chard that is banging value. Get as many as you can before I drink them all. Plus this wine has the bones for age, so buy a case and keep drinking over 8 years.
